GREGG ANNOUNCES $300,000 FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION
OF ROBERT FROST FARM

WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) today announced that the Senate Appropriations Committee has approved a measure containing $300,000 in federal funding to restore, repair, and preserve the Robert Frost Farm.  As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Gregg was able to include the funding in the Fiscal Year 2007 Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development Bill, which is now ready for consideration by the full Senate later this fall.  The State of New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development, which has owned and managed the Frost Farm since 1965, will oversee the future reconstruction efforts.  Robert Frost is a world-renowned poet who wrote many of his notable literary works while living at the Farm.

Senator Gregg stated, “The Robert Frost Farm is an important historic, cultural and educational landmark in the Granite State.  Each year many children take school trips to the Farm where they learn about the accomplished poet who has played a significant role in shaping New Hampshire’s rich literary tradition.  These funds will not only preserve the Farm, but will ensure that generations to come will have the opportunity to enjoy this resource.”

George Bald, Commissioner of the NH Department of Resources and Economic Development stated, “The Robert Frost Farm State Historic Site is a unique cultural resource important to the State and the Nation. Poet Robert Frost wrote some of his best loved poems at the site including The Mending Wall.  With that in mind, we truly appreciate the Senator’s efforts to help us with a range of conservation measures to protect the Farm."

Laura Burnham, Chairman of the Robert Frost Farm Board of Trustees stated, “I am extremely pleased to hear that Senator Gregg has procured the necessary funding to address critical preservation issues at the Robert Frost Homestead. The importance of this property to the literary community is immeasurable because the Derry farm was undisputedly the seed from which Frost's poetic inspiration and literary career grew. Senator Gregg’s efforts to preserve this important historical landmark will insure that future generations of Frost enthusiasts from across the globe will have the opportunity to visit this New Hampshire treasure. On behalf of the Frost Farm Trustees, I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to the Senator for this noteworthy achievement.”
